The world of comedy lost a giant today. Aussie director Ted Emery passed away after a battle with cancer. I lost a friend and someone who I have looked up to and learned from for 46 years. Ted was the very first Director I ever worked with in Television when I started at ABC Television in Melbourne in 1980. He was wise and brilliant but most of all he was hilariously funny. I loved Ted and was honored to work with him many times during my years at Auntie (ABC). People here in the USA might not know his name but they sure as hell know KATH & KIM. That series was as brilliant as it was in part because Ted was the leader of the pack. I painted this portrait of Ted two years ago as a heartfelt tribute to the man who started me off in this crazy business. I had no idea he was sick until recently. I was deeply honored to see that multiple news sources in Australia used it as their image of Ted in announcing his death. You will be missed always, but the laughs you gave the world will last forever. RIP mate and thank you for everything you did for me along the way. I am so very sad that you are gone.
